Disinfectant Efficacy Testing

Being able to stand by your product’s performance and the ability to confirm that it conforms to a recognised standard is necessary to substantiate any efficacy claims you intend to make, including any labelling requirements.

Whilst there are many standards designed for specific undertakings ie BS13697 is a non porous surface evaluation of bactericidal/fungicidal activity, many buyers will simply ask that a product conforms to BS1276 – this is a suspension test.

Within these standards are the 4 standard reference organisms which must achieve the required log reduction to Pass, but additional industry specific organisms of concerns can be added during the challenge test. This makes it a more cost effective way of being able to make additional claims in addition to the Standard 4 organisms listed. The 4 reference organisms have been selected to provide a breadth of diversity and challenge.

It is important that all products have a validated neutraliser as part of the Standard, this acts as your confidence that the contact times are as stated. Sometimes this is straightforward, but occasionally we may have to try different formulations depending on how much information on the original composition we are given.

Putting a product through a standard allows you to make claims that can be internationally verified on a like for like basis against other products.

We are happy to advise you, and discuss with you the best options before embarking on a full Efficacy test.
