Amy McCann and Rachel Dougan from our Bookings Team together with Kayleigh Pullen from our Chemistry Department are undertaking the Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday 6th July – a distance of 20km/12.5 miles – to raise money for UNIQUE (Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group). This charity is close to Amy’s heart as her daughter, Poppy, was diagnosed in June 2024 with a rare chromosome disorder called Distal Micro Duplication of Chromosome 16p11.2. Due to the rarity of this condition very little information was available from the medical team as to how this condition would affect Poppy, so Amy set about finding out as much information as she could through the internet and came across the charity Unique. Through hearing the stories of other families and seeing the information provided on their website, together with help from their support groups, Amy no longer felt alone and began to understand more about the condition, how it was actually affecting Poppy, and what they could expect for Poppy in the future. Without the help and support of Unique she would not have gained this information or the support the charity provides. As is so often the case, the charity depends on donations for its’ survival, mostly obtained by the fundraising efforts of people like Amy, Rachel and Kayleigh.
If you are able, Amy and the charity would be very grateful for any donation you could make to help them continue to fund the vital research and help they provide to families like Poppy’s into this rare condition. The link to Amy’s ‘Just Giving’ account is below. Thank you.
